Chinese American artist, born in Malaysia,

I found my way to New York City as a fashion model, drawn into the vibrant energy of the late 1980s—an artist’s haven where creatives from diverse backgrounds and social classes intersected. There, I began a journey of self-discovery as a self-taught artist, learning through my camera and expanding my practice from darkroom studies in platinum-palladium printing to silkscreen and photographic experimentation.

During motherhood, I took a pause from full-time work while continuing to nurture my photographic practice. Alongside other experimental projects, I published two portrait photography books exploring portraiture of Eastern and Western opera and backstage. Personal project works includes travel encounters in street shots and landscape photography are few more things that interest me.

Before and during COVID, I dedicated myself fully to photography, using my camera to engage with diverse genres and explore the passage of time through my own lens. Photography becomes both subject and medium of transformation: a space for experimentation, deconstruction, and the expansion of visual storytelling. From mix-media fine art, self-portraiture, still-life abstraction, women’s culture, and climate environmental themes, latest works includes surrealist mixed-media photo collages and sculptural works.
